The time it takes depends on the length of the ridge and access to the roof. For a standard semi-detached or terraced house, the job can usually be completed within a day. We will always give you a clear timescale before we start any work.

The main cause is simply time and weather. Over the years, the constant cycle of rain, sun, and frost (the freeze-thaw cycle) causes the cement mortar to degrade, become brittle, and eventually crack and fall away. General building movement can also contribute to the problem.

We strongly advise against this. Simply applying new mortar over old, cracked cement is a very short-term fix. The new layer won't bond properly and is likely to fail in a very short space of time, meaning you'll be paying to fix the same problem again. The only way to do the job correctly is to remove all the old mortar and start fresh.

Initially, the cost of installing a dry ridge system is higher than a traditional sand and cement re-bedding job. This is due to the cost of the specialist components. However, because it requires no future maintenance (like re-pointing), it can often prove more cost-effective over the long life of your roof.
